Max Payne 2 - this error several times
Having already reinstalled the game, and used the downloaded patch too... and now getting the same damned problem I got before with the fucking copy protection... basically, you click the icon then NOTHING happens other than the hourglass flashes for a tenth of a second. Nothing.
The least the fuckers who protected the disc could have done was pop up an error message, something to the effect of "Wrong Disc Inserted" or "Disc Read Error", even if the error is not caused by a genuine error but rather, poorly implemented beta-quality copy-protection, it'd at least be nice to know for sure that the computer registered that I clicked something
This is what I get for BUYING software? Experiences like this tend to cause one to not want to buy a new game, ever. Its not like I'm using some crap no-name CDROM drive either. Had the exact same problems with either a Sony 24x12x40 CDRW and the 16X DVDRom.
Uninstalling completely, and reinstalling (the norm for Windows, just not THIS often!) fixes the problem, but only for a few loads.
For the moment I'm sticking with trying to follow their suggested solutions, but I already stashed away a copy of the "NO CD" patch from a Russian website. You know the one, that the DMCA makes illegal because its a "circumvention device"? Its looking like I am going to need this illegal patch program just to enjoy the game I purchased without having to reinstall every other reboot. Sad, really... when Russia is the land of the free...
In Corporate America, you can buy and own things from free press, but Government tells you how you must read! WHAT A COUNTRY!
In the future I shall either:
1. Wait until retail price drops from $49.99 to $19.99, and the bugs have presumably been worked out. This has worked good for me last couple of years, and I have a nice pretty collection of game boxes to look at because of it.
2. Bootleg the fucking thing like I used to when I was a little kid with a measly allowance instead of an adult with a job.
